Special parcel of well-matured Rioja Crianza, now with five years' age. It's from a winery that, over a century ago, was one of the first to win at international competition. Silky Tempranillo fruit, with a gentle layer of toasty vanilla complexity.
"Silky elegant Rioja Crianza. A delightful glass, ready to drink or cellar for further complexity"
Beth Willard Buyer for Spain
Our Selección Especial Numerada range allows our Buyer Beth to pick up great deals for Rioja lovers. Even top wineries sometimes have a little surplus that they want to clear from their cellars to make a bit of space or get some upfront cash. We are delighed to help out with the proviso that we keep their name under wraps. That said, this bodega was one of the earliest in the appellation, winning awards back in the 1920s and still producing fine elegant wines at their cellar in Rioja Alta, close to Haro. They have some particularly old vines there, the grapes from which give this Crianza a backbone of intense berry fruit and silky tannins. A year's ageing in oak has lent a touch of spicy vanilla, now beautifully integrated with the fruit.
